Meat Pie II

Description

A smaller preparation of Meat Pie I. Makes about 4 large pies.

Ingredients

  • 1½ Lbs. ground pork
  • 3½ Lbs. ground beef
  • 1 large onion
  • ¾ Cups boiling water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • 2 tsp thyme
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 5 to 10 mashed potatoes
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning

Directions

  1. Combine meat, onion, and seasoning in a large pot with water
  2. Bring to boiling, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occaisionally
  3. Remove from heat and stir in mashed potatoes
  4. Cool meat mixture, then put into prepared pie crusts
  5. Brush tops of pies with beaten eggs
  6. Bake at 450℉ for 10 minutes; Reduce heat to 350℉ for 25 minutes until crust is golden-brown

Notes

  1. Might need to bake longer to make sure bottom crusts are cooked through.
  2. Add about 3 shredded carrots to the meat mixture for a preparation preferred by Robert Soucy.
