Dutch Buttercake
Description
Delicious and not too rich with a subtle almond flavour, this dessert also pairs great with coffee. The cake will be dense, soft on the inside but firm on the outside.Ingredients
- ⅔ cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons almond extract
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 ½ cups flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- Sliced almonds for garnish
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350℉
- Mix together butter, sugar, and almond extract
- Reserve 1 tsp of egg, mix the rest of the egg into the butter mixture
- Sift together the flour and baking powder
- Mix the wet and dry ingredients
- Place dough in a greased 9 inch pie plate
- Mix reserved egg with an equal amount of water, brush over the dough
- Garnish with almond slices if desired
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until firm to touch
