Dutch Buttercake

Description

Delicious and not too rich with a subtle almond flavour, this dessert also pairs great with coffee. The cake will be dense, soft on the inside but firm on the outside.

Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • Sliced almonds for garnish

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉
  2. Mix together butter, sugar, and almond extract
  3. Reserve 1 tsp of egg, mix the rest of the egg into the butter mixture
  4. Sift together the flour and baking powder
  5. Mix the wet and dry ingredients
  6. Place dough in a greased 9 inch pie plate
  7. Mix reserved egg with an equal amount of water, brush over the dough
  8. Garnish with almond slices if desired
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until firm to touch
